Sam George, PHCA President, informed the over 90 Zoom participants that there was very little to report on the “glamping” project this month. East West Partners, the developer for Starwood Capital Group, informed the Board that the “glamping” project was still under evaluation by Starwood and they were unable to report beyond that.
Sam George re-iterated that East West Partners would inform the PHCA Board before they submit their requests to the Kauai County Planning Department and Hawaii Land Use Commission. He also said there was nothing pending with the County.
In addition, Sam noted that Will Little who was the East West Partners project manager in charge of the 1Hotel re-development had left East West Partners. Mark Hall will remain the contact with East West Partners.
Questions from the community participants:
Has the board made a decision on not supporting “glamping”?
Sam George – No. The Board doesn’t feel it yet needs to take a position.
Regarding the Survey in general.
Sam feels that anyone can interpret the Survey results in any way they want. Sam noted that what overwhelmingly come out of the survey was that everyone wants to protect the open space, and the Board is 100% in favor of that. He offered other Board members the opportunity to comment on the Survey results, none did.
Regarding the submitted Survey Comments.
Maylette Garces (PHCA GM) and Sam responded to a question regarding the feedback from all the comments submitted by the survey participants. There were hundreds and hundreds of comments covering a full range of responses. They felt there was no way to report on the comments due to the range of responses. Sam said they had read all of the comments, that most were very thoughtful, well expressed, insightful, and great information for the Board. There was a question on whether the “cleaned” comments would be made available. Sam said it would be taken under advisement.
Regarding Taskforce to address Open Space in Princeville.
Community member Mary Paterson asked what the Board’s position is regarding an Open Space Taskforce (that she had previously proposed to Maylette) forming in conjunction with the PHCA Board. Maylette responded the Board could not currently sanction the Taskforce, since it is not a committee being formed by the Board. Maylette said she would be happy to be on the Taskforce as a community member, not as a representative of the Board. She also suggested inviting PV-2 Community Association members to join the Taskforce to benefit the larger Princeville community, and to broaden the understanding of the issues at hand.
There were no other “glamping” related questions.
